Groan!
I went to the bike shop and got 'slicks' and a female seat.
This in anticipation of the great pain and in an effort to alleviate some of it.
Slicks are skinny tires which are supposed to reduce the amount of velocity lost to friction.
Female seat being a seat that is designed with the female body in mind to...well... reduce pressure to certain areas.

I have been talking to some veteran bikers as of late. You should hear the things they do in order to have a comfortable ride. One of which is using a product called 'utter cream'. YIKES! When I was little, our family regularly visited/stayed at our cottage on long lake. About once a year the drive to the cottage would take a little longer then usual because the MS bike tour was in progress. There was usually a couple hundred people biking from Regina to Rowan's Ravine provincial park, they would stay the night there and bike back the next day. This was to raise money for MS.

I always kinda wanted to ride but it's really really far... (160 km) Well, it seems pretty far to me.

Anyway, this year like every year before I picked up the tour pamphlet.
As it so happens, there is a new girl here at work and she and her bf also like to bike.

SO GUESS WHAT..

Yes, that it is correct.

This year the tour is from Rouleau Sk to Moose Jaw and back.
And there is one pretty big catch.....I have to raise 250 bucks.
Which will probably be harder for me then the actually biking because I am shy and I DON'T like to ask people for things. Especially money.

SO, anyway....... here is the link to the ms website. https://msors.mssociety.ca/Bike2007/Sponsor.aspx?&PID=974359&L=2 You can sponsor under the link 'pledge a cyclist'. I just need to make the $ 250.

Also, the MS society will send tax receipts to anyone that donates over $15.00.

Thanks everyone.
Please feel sorry for my sore butt and wish me luck!
Cheers.

Well...

I am off the master cleanse. I only managed to last 5 days. You are supposed to drink this lemonade 6-12 days a day. It provides you with the nutrients you need to keep going. As it turns out the first day I drank 3, the second day 2, third-1 and none after that. I got really tired and weak and finally had to quit. All in all, I lost 4 lbs. BUT - now my system isn't working real well. ANYWAY. That's all I got.

Master Cleanser

Well. Today I am starting this crazy lemonade diet called the master cleanser.
Really it's probably one of the dumber things that I have done. BUT. Maybe it will actually turn out to be a good thing. There is only one problem and that is that you can't eat. And by can't eat I mean nothing, nada, zilch, zero, naught, nil... nothing.

I keep telling myself that this is actually a good thing. That it will teach me that mind can be stronger then matter and that when it is done, I will feel really good.

All I really want is a pickle. Ok, make that 5 pickles. Pickled beets, picked asparagus, picked beets, picked beans, sweet pickles, sour pickles, dills, garlic dills... whatever, I want it.

Anyway, I figured that since I haven't had much to say lately, that this would be a good way for me to get back into it. I would simply relate my experience of how this diet is going to you. I also figured that it would be a good way to keep myself motivated. Maybe, I will actually be able to last the 10 days if I am telling you about it.

So to start off - I will tell you exactly what it is you do.
You drink lemonade 6 to 12 times a day.

Recipe:
2 tbsp organic fresh lemon juice
2 tbsp organic grade b dark maple syrup
1/10 tsp cayenne pepper
Water

So here it goes.
Day 1
9:15 am - mix and drink 1 cup. I am at work so I put it in a traveler’s mug and drink it over the next 45 minutes.
1:00 - I have been reading on the internet a woman’s account/experience of the master cleanse and am beginning to worry. It sounds difficult and painful. (she had lip and breast implants) Go home for lunch and decide to make the lemonade into a smoothie.
2:30 - Back at work drinking another cup of warm lemonade. Wonder what I should have for supper. HMMM.
I am worried that I may not be able to drink 7 glasses a day. (it’s 3 and I am still not done my third) I am feeling tired. Not sure it’s because I haven’t eaten or because I was up at 3:30 last night not able to sleep.

No longer compounding

Alas, I have decided that will try and write. Well, for a while, that dropped off and I actually tried to pay attention in class.

It's Tuesday night at 8:05 and I am in corporate finance. And yes I am posting... The reason? The Professor we have had for the beginning of the semester left.

So you might ask yourself - did they not replace the prof that left? I have been asking myself that too!! And I have come to the conclusion that yes... they did replace him... BUT WHY OH WHY did they have to ask the Janitor to fill in?

It drives me crazy that they hire sooooo many professors that cannot speak English. (no exaggeration)

My question is this.... Does the Dean of Business think that all people who cannot speak English are qualified for 'professorship'? (there are a lot lately) Does he hire cheap labour from other countries? OR - Does he simply value equal opportunity for employment more then the education of students in his faculty?

This is what I know - I don't pay for school to come and sit in a class room with a professor that cannot speak English. I don't like paying for an education that I can't understand... I want to come to class to learn (if I chose to) and not have to study the text book for hours because I couldn't understand the prof.

THIS IS FINANCE - NOT CULTURE 100.

Many Canadians (on a daily basis) go overseas to teach English. Why? To live in another country and to make money. Just as many people are coming from overseas to work in the University of Regina... I ask you this.... I was actually thinking of doing something similar like dark floor and light cabinets.

Well. Today is the day that I have to go and pick cabinets. I am pretty stressed about it because somehow I still have no idea what I want. I want it to be perfect though and something that I will really love.... and well... since I am going to be making the decision in a couple hours I am a little worried that it might not happen.

I have to admit that this whole picking new stuff is way harder then I thought. Before, when I was doing Reno's, I took my inspiration from something that was already in the room. For instance I chose the color of the paint in the bathroom to match the grout in the bathroom floor. YIKES! I can't choose the color of the cabinets to match the plywood on the floor right now.

Anyway, will let you know what goes down!

Cabinets

Yesterday the Realtor called to tell me that I should really get on top of ordering my cabinets for the Condo. I have been putting it off while I look at different styles and trying to find something that goes with maple hardwood since I am sure that I want that. Anyway, I went online to the showroom for the cabinet shop and picked a couple styles that I like. According to the Internet my style is considered 'contemporary'. Let me know which of the below is your favorite. Keep in mind that the floor will be maple hardwood so the cabinets will need to match.

OH! The theory examines how the distance between two individuals effects their behaviour. Each person has a space in which they feel comfortable and this space is usually different for each individual. The space will very depending on your sex, culture etc. and can also depend on who is invading it.

Some physical/psychological effects people may experience when they feel their space is being intruded upon include: increased heart rate, increased breathing rate, tightness in chest area, stomach churns, shaking, dizziness, distress, avoidance

The diagram below demonstrates the average distances most people are comfortable with. An intimate relationship would be that of your partner; whereas the public space would apply to unknown people around you.

<a class="internal" title="Diagram of Edward T. It's not as big as my old one but it's still pretty large.
This is the eat in area of the kitchen. Again, smaller but I was looking to down size. I am really looking forward to picking a table for it.

Kitchen - I like the size, it is much larger then my old galley kitchen... but it's not nearly as colorful. lol

This is the very, very small living room. The builder originally said July but since I will have no place to live we were able to get negotiate.

So... this place is going to cost me about 550 less a month; which I am looking forward to. I can spend the money traveling.... and another bonus is that my car will be paid off.

Anyway, although the condo is new... I don't like it. I really, really don't like the area which is up in the north and I don't like this new style of condo. However, I will really like having new appliances and central vac! Especially a dish washer !!!!! HA!!!! that's awesome!!!!

However, I plan on living there for a year or two while I finish school. I the meantime I will save up for another place (down payment) and then I will rent out the condo. Hopefully, I will be able to find some good renters and I will be on my way to being a landlord?

Take it for what it's worth, take it with a grain of salt.

Purpose:

Life must have purpose, it must have meaning it must have substance.
I believe that to find true happiness you must come to peace with what your purpose is. What do you hope to achieve in your life? When you are at deaths door; what can you look back on that will make you say ‘it was worth it’? What will be the ending to your phrase, “my life was well lived because …”. Some will say, “I raised a beautiful family” or “I found the cure for…” or “I helped the needy” or “I lived God‘s will”.

This may sound like a terrible cliché but…
You only live once and life is so short. Don’t put off today what you can do tomorrow because you don’t know if tomorrow will come. Regret nothing, only learn from your mistakes and always move forward. Leave no rock unturned, fill you life with meaning, love to the fullest and find happiness.

To the person who commented on being a cruise ship - get off at every port and explore even if you leave with diarrhea you will have a better world view. Each port explored will mean a better ability to ‘walk a mile in someone else’s shoes’.

I will not look back with regret, only forward with more knowledge and wisdom. I will make better choices because I will learn from my imperfect experiences. I will search for purpose. I will live my life not according to the standards and expectations of others.
I will not marry to be married.
I will not learn to be educated.
I will not work to be rich.
I will seek purpose and if I become married, educated and have financial wealth then I will be richer then I could dream. And if I do not marry, learn or accumulate wealth then I will still have had purpose.

BECAUSE:

To have no purpose is to have no direction. No direction, to me, means to be unhappy and unfulfilled.
You can have purpose and lack direction but you cannot have direction with no purpose.

My 'so called' life...

It’s 11:20 on Monday night. I am laying on my bed and have a glass of red wine on the night table. It’s a good wine (by my standards) which costs about $35. I permit myself a glass once in a while; only when I am really in the mood. Itunes is quietly looping through a list of music and I am thinking about what my week holds.
I have an overwhelming sense of being lost.
I think about all the time that I don’t have and I begin to wonder if my life will pass before my eyes, if I will wake up one day on my death bed and wonder where the time went. And I come to realize that the one thing I want, is to awake on the last morn of my life, and know that it was well lived.
I want to be the ship with a clear course and a destination port. I don’t want to be the ship that is lost at sea, that is tossed about in the turmoil and violence of the storm.
And with that thought in mind I begin to ponder my situation.
There are 24 hours in a day/night and I am at least partially awake for 17 of those hours. During the week, 9 hours are spent at working which leaves me with 8 hours. At least one hour a day is spent on hygiene, (shower etc). I spend about an hour a day driving from home to work to school leaving me with 6 hours. Of that 6 hours, I spend about 3 hours at school.
For the remaining 3 hours, I try to drag myself to the gym, where I will attempt to exert any additional energy that I may have. If I can’t muster the energy I usually spend the time paying bills, bogging, checking emails, talking to people I love or simply reading/watching TV.
On the weekend I try to catch up on all the house work that has accumulated over the week, plan and make meals for the future week, catch up on homework, see family and get groceries.
I have often pondered my inability to sleep…then one day I realized that the main reason I wake up is because my brain hasn’t shut off. It’s been thinking about something in the middle of night… and somewhere in the deep vault of my brain, an electrical current is sent that says “HEY!!! Wake up…you need to remember this”. And so I lie awake and think about things….
When I first bought my condo I would wake up in the middle of the night and start to paint. I would paint the baseboards or I would clean the house… and it seemed to ease and calm my mind. These days I am simply to tired to get out of bed.
And thus I lie awake in a semi conscious state of awareness. I wonder about things like ‘locked-in’ syndrome and the meaning of life.

And in the mumble jumble of my thoughts I find peace in the slow and steady breath that comes without thought. And I know then that my life is only as complicated and busy as I make it.

Blogging

I wonder if it's because my life is so busy that I am now bored of blogging or if it is simply the inevitable.

I guess you could say that for a couple weeks it had become a hobby of mine. But in order for me to write I must be inspired. Inspiration for me comes from emotion. Any emotion: Joy, peace, anger and hatred. I most often chose to write only the things that will humor/entertain the reader.

I think that if I were to write when I am most inspired it would be to dark and deep for anyone to want to read. And I wouldn't want you to read it either.
Not that I am by any means attempting to solve the problems of the world, as I first have many of my own problems to work on.

Anyway, I was a little inspired by the emotions I experienced while selling this condo my first home.

I feel as thought it was the first love my life. You know the excitement and the butterflies? Somehow the first love was the best love, the first kiss was the best kiss, and the first breakup was the worst, etc.
I wonder if I made the right decision. If it will pay off. What will become of my future.
Alas, that is what I feel right now.

Will I ever love again? I can't believe this place is going to be someone else's.

I am looking forward to traveling more and my new investment!!!

SK Homes 4 Sale

Well. The second realtor came last night. I felt pretty bad because I had already decided to use SKhomes4sale. She was really nice and really professional and she kinda reminded me of Nana. She left me with a breakdown of the fees and her commission. One thing that I really appreciated about her was her honesty. Her commission was 7% which she said she would negotiate; it works out to about $8000. Then in addition to that $8000, I would have to pay GST and PST on the commission. This would be an additional $1100. It's amazing how much it costs to sell a house if you use an agent. She then told me the breakdown of where her fees go. The brokerage gets 3 % and she gets 4 %, she will negotiate on her 4% which I guess is pretty impressive. But... I don't want to pay 9100 to sell my house. I would much rather have that money in my pocket for my next purchase.....(especially if I plan to renovate)

I hope for the best with SKhomes4sale. If the market is as hot as they tell me it is then there should be buyers that are willing to by from owner. So, the condo goes on the market today at 12:00. Wish me luck!

http://sk.athomecanada.com/listingA-5884.htm

U of R Parking.

Remember when I wrote about the lack of parking space, the purchase of parking passes and the rough and dangerous terrain U of R students are subjected to? Well if any of you thought to be worried about my safety; it was well justified.

While at work today, I received an URGENT SECURITY NOTICE from the manager of campus security. This urgent notice was to inform me that I should not hike the long difficult terrain alone tonight. They suggested that I call 585-5600 and get a 'walk along' partner. Why?

Well - it seems that today while an unsuspecting U of R student was bravely battling the elements and topography, passing through a valley of snow, he was preyed upon by some bandits.

And, while this is most likely (they haven't found any bodies yet) an isolated incident; campus security is recommending that we take precautions.

I wish that I could find a parking spot with my parking pass close (at least within 2 km) to the U of R. That might significantly reduce the risks of me being mugged and beaten tonight.

But I know (now that they sent out this email) that every parking spot will be filled by 6:15. I will have rushed from work in vain, to be caught in the never-ending circling about.... and when I can't find a spot.... I will once again dig into my (increasingly shallow) pocket and spend my coffee money on paid parking.

Sincerest sympathy to the gentleman who was robbed and beaten at knife point. I wish for him some extra change so he too can afford to pay parking.

It's 10:06 - I need to study...

Well. Now that I have completely exposed the humble and meager space which I call home; I must go and study. This weekend has passed me by faster then BMW roadster on the autobahn. I wish I could refuse to face reality (and my corporate finance textbook) but my brain will not allow me that pleasure. And so... I say goodnight. Have fun looking at the pictures. I was up working last night until 1:30, then up again today at 8:00. BUT!!! It's good news. The realtor suggested that I list at 129,900; which means that if I can sell for that.... I will have made 30,000 in 2 years. Nice EH? Well, I am by no means getting my hopes up because nothing is confirmed and I have not yet sold. I'm not sure what I am going to do... but I think I might try Sask homes 4 sale before I list with the realtor.

Anyway, the car is warming up because I have to run out and get some groceries for the week.
When I get home I have to study for a test in Corporate Finance on Tuesday. First, the university suggests that you should buy a 'parking pass'. For me (a night student) this costs you about 40 dollars. However, for the full time student it will cost you close to 400 dollars. These prices change if you choose to purchase a pass that is electrified. Once you have acquired the parking pass the next step is to find a parking spot. Unfortunately, buying the parking pass is much easier then finding a parking spot. I highly doubt that the university puts a cap on the number of passes they sell. As a result, there is a very high car to parking spot ratio. This in turn leads to very irate, obnoxious and rude drivers.

One of which is me....

I had been driving around the parking lot for approximately 20 minutes when I came across a vehicle that (by all appearances) was on the verge of backing out. Once I recognized this I promptly stomped on the brakes and put on my signal light. I had after all, been circling like a vulture awaiting a time just like this to swoop in. And so the vehicle (maybe a GMC half tonne, in a dark blue shade with fogged windows) did indeed back out.

During the time I gave the GMC truck to back out a white van drove up.

I suspect that the van carried (or was piloted by) one of those woman who feels that the world 'owes' her.

In fact by the look on that woman's face WHILE SHE STOLE MY PARKING SPOT I would say she is one of those people.

And so, with (lack of) time propelling me forward, I left that parking lot and went to pay parking. And because there is a night discount rate, I promptly forked over 2 dollars to park. Why, you might ask?

Have you been to Regina in the winter? The next closest parking lot is about 5 km from the University. While this little hike, over uneven and taunting ground, is wonderful in the summer; it is far from enjoyable in the winter. In fact, you may suffer hypothermia and frostbite as a result.

And so, I have a chip off my shoulder. Why?... because I regularly pay for parking, even though I have already purchased so called 'parking pass'.

The university of Regina should a least be required to print a disclaimer stating that they are not responsible for the frost bite acquired while students walk from their cars to the school. Or for the broken nose I was tempted to give the lady (or so called) that stole my parking spot.

My First Blog Post

Today - January 30/07 at approximately 8:55, while in finance, I created this blog.

What for?

I'm not sure, maybe to record my thoughts and general things about my life.
Maybe to amuse myself in finance. Which, I'll have you know is not the most interesting class ever. And the prof. (I will also have you know) is not the most interesting guy either.
Mind you... if I was absolutely enthralled with present value and discounting I would be on the edge of my chair. ...or maybe not. Because anyone that is enthralled with present value and discounting would never 'be on the edge of their chair'. No... they are far more likely to be firmly planted in their chair with a studious look about them, maybe a pair of small reading glasses perched on their nose and a pair of pants hitched up to their neck. Or possibly for the modern student; the geek would probably have a notebook computer (most likely apple) with an ipod and would be watching 'youtube'.

Mind you - This, I think, would better describe the common student. It seems, walking through the halls, that almost everyone has some little ear bud. *usually white. Funny how people tend to stick with the accredited inventory until much time has passed.... (like for instance, Ford, which is loosing market share rapidly, even though it was once most popular)

Funny....either it's a really great idea.... or everyone is simply conforming to the norm. I generally sway back and forth on my opinion on the matter. And I choose to believe whatever is most convenient for me, simply because on matters as trivial as these... why wouldn't I?

The man (name starting with F) sitting next to me.... who has small reading glasses perched on his nose.... looks over and sarcastically remarks that the casual observations just stated... are 'deep'. I have no idea what the means, nor do I know what point he is trying to make. Maybe he is annoyed with me for clacking away on my keyboard.... and not paying attention. Maybe he is annoyed with me because he cannot resist reading my blog. (which, secretly, I highly suspect)Maybe he will be the first person I know to tune in regularly???? From the look on his face.... I wouldn't bet on it.

Granted, I could understand his frustration as we have a quiz rapidly approaching.... for which I have shown nothing but blatant disregard.

Maybe, therefore, I should extend a greater effort on making my comments more informing, interesting and intelligent. I could remember it by the 3 I's.
